Lesson 5: Developing a hypothesis
1. Watch video and discuss the importance of making a claim, the meaning of an educated guess and how research determines what a hypothesis will be

3. Display slide 9. Have the students identify the complimentary ‘er’ words in the list. Begin a discussion about other ‘er’ words which could be used to describe the state of something in a scientific investigation.
4. Display slide 10. Explain to the class that they will be developing a hypothesis for an experiment they have been researching. This could be something that is already in progress or something the students have worked on in past lessons. To help those who may be having difficulty, display slide 8 from the presentation as a scaffold.
